Best cooling sheets
We’ve been on the quest to find the most refreshing sheets and multiple members of our team think that the Sijo Airyweight Eucalyptus set is the coolest sheets you can buy. These sheets are great at wicking away heat and moisture and have excellent airflow. More importantly, they are deliciously soft. Best cotton sheets
Cotton sheets are always a go-to for their breathability, softness, and ability to keep heat at bay. While some fabrics offer a luxurious, soft feel, they can also sometimes trap heat. The L.L.Bean percale sheets, however, stand out with their silky smooth texture and refreshingly airy feel, earning the top spot overall in our guide to the best sheets. They’re perfect for hot sleepers and warm summer nights. Additionally, these sheets come in a variety of sizes and colors to complement your bedroom.
Best bamboo sheets
Bamboo is also a go-to fabric for cooling sheets, known for its natural cooling properties, breathability, and smooth feel. After comprehensive testing, the Quince bamboo sheet set is our best overall pick for its comfort and affordability.. These sheets are crafted from 100% viscose derived from organic bamboo, delivering a soft, crisp, and silky-smooth feel. They’re perfect for keeping you cool and comfortable all night long. Best linen sheets
Linen is another classic choice for cooling bed sheets as they are breathable, durable, and temperature-regulating. Our team tested 10 different sets and after much deliberation, our top pick is the Brooklinen washed linen core sheet set. Traditional linen sheets can sometimes be heavy, a little scratchy, and lead to overheating, however, this set is airy and soft out of the packaging. They’re light enough to maintain a cool temperature throughout the night, making it perfect for hot sleepers. They are also available in a variety of colors, feature top and bottom tags, and they get softer after each wash.

Best cooling mattress
The mattress is the foundation of your sleep. A mattress that dissipates heat and promotes airflow can truly make or break your time in bed. Hybrid mattresses and latex options are great types to consider. The Nest Bedding Finch Latex Mattress is the top performer in our cooling tests staying cool all night long and even returning close to its initial temperature after just a couple of minutes getting up from the bed. With its medium firmness, it’s well-suited for hot sleepers of any sleeping style. Nest Bedding provides a 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty, so you can try it out with confidence.

Best cooling mattress topper
If a new mattress isn’t in the cards, you can find relief with a cooling mattress topper. The best ones take it to the next level with advanced cooling properties that promote airflow and feature moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating capabilities. The Ghostbed memory foam topper impressed us with its exceptional heat dissipation and plush comfort. It also features zoned support and has great motion isolation, but is best suited for side sleepers. And yes, it’s available in Twin XL, making it a great option for college-bound students.

Best cooling mattress protector
It sure would be a shame if you invested in bedding foundations designed to keep you cool and skimped on one of the best mattress protectors that sleeps cool and won’t trap heat. The breathable Helix Mattress Protector almost instantly dispersed any pent up body heat and passed all of our waterproofing tests after five washes. It’s also noiseless and fits the bed well. For active cooling, you can upgrade to the GlacioTex Waterproof Mattress Protector, uses the same fabric as Helix’s mattress cover upgrade, and features fibers with a high thermal conductivity that draws heat away from the body and stays cool to the touch.
Best cooling weighted blanket
If you seek the comfort of the best weighted blankets but hate overheating, the Baloo Living Weighted Comforter or Blanket is a great choice, available in several neutral colors and four weights ranging from 12 to 25 pounds. The comforter size drapes over the bed for a more typical comforter look while the blanket stretches just over the top of the mattress. Made of all-natural cotton and lead-free glass beads (no polyester to be found), the weighted blanket is breathable and almost silky to the touch. During testing, we noticed no signs of overheating,
Best cooling pajamas
For hot sleepers wearing the least amount of clothes possible may seem like the best choice, but opting for pjs made of natural or breathable fabrics to bed can make all the difference. Swedish company Dagsmejan specializes in sustainably made loungewear that emphasizes breathability and coolness. Its NATTCOOL Sleep Tech pajamas, available for both men and women, are made of eucalyptus and touted as eight times more breathable than cotton. Plus, their moisture-wicking properties dry in a third of the time. With cooling options for both genders, I love the sleek, simple separates, and the airy fabric is perfect for warm nights. Plus, it’s available in 11 colors and prints in sizes XS-XXL.

Best electric fan
Adding a fan can significantly enhance air circulation to help you keep cool while you sleep, and lessen your reliance on AC. The Shark Turbo Blade has been a game changer with various coolings modes that range from whisper quiet to an easy breeze if you prefer a little white noise. The true differential of this fan upgrade is the “Air Blanket Mode,” where the fan can pivot horizontally and provide a steady stream of comforting wind at bed height while you sleep. The versatile and height-adjustable fan also lets you twist vents in multiple directions for increased air flow. The fan has 10 settings and also oscillates.

Best cooling bed system
If gel memory foam and copper-infused foams for temperature regulation isn’t cutting it for you, cooling bed systems have grown in popularity. The Eight Sleep Pod 4 is essentially a cover filled with discreet water-filled tubes that actively cool (and heat) your bed from a range spanning a chilly 55 degrees Fahrenheit to a toasty 110 degrees Fahrenheit. It fits over your existing mattress without altering the feel and is attached to a power hub that sits nearby and is the “brain” of the technology. The Eight Sleep can do a lot more than cool your bed, it also includes comprehensive sleep analytics and responds to your body’s temperature and needs throughout the night using AI to help you stay asleep, though these features require a subscription.
We’ve had plenty of hands-on time with the Pod 4 version, but this spring, Eight Sleep revealed its next-gen Pod 5 Core, which now offers advanced monitor cardiovascular and respiratory health monitoring, boasts compatibility with a “hydro-powered Blanket” for a fully enveloping cooling experience and an upgraded adjustable base add-on that features an integrated speaker with surround sound. All of these are add-ons cost extra (the blanket alone will set you back another $1,000), so unless you plan to round out your sleep system with these upgrades, the technology between and Pod 4 and Pod 5 are very similar, with the Pod 4 costing about $300 less.

Cooling sleep products FAQs
What is the best temperature to sleep in?
Sleep experts recommend keeping your room between 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. Alex Dimitriu, MD, dual board-certified in psychiatry and sleep medicine, tells us that this range has been studied and shown to promote better sleep quality by helping to lower your body temperature, which increases deep sleep and overall sleep quality.
What are the best materials to help sleep cooler?
Dr. Dimitriu highlights that cotton, eucalyptus, and bamboo are excellent for keeping cool as they effectively dissipate heat and enhance ventilation. Nishi Bhopal, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist and sleep specialist, adds that breathable sleepwear made from natural fibers rather than synthetics like polyester is crucial for better temperature regulation. These materials help manage heat and sweat, promoting comfort and minimizing sleep disruptions.
Additionally, sleep products like cooling mattresses, mattress toppers, pillows, sheets, and fans are designed to help maintain a comfortable sleep temperature and reduce nighttime overheating.
How can I make my bedroom cooler?
Dr. Nishi recommends a few strategies that can help maintain optimal sleep temperatures. These include opening windows for better ventilation, using fans to circulate air, and opting for breathable bedding and cooling products. If available, air conditioning is highly effective. Alternatively, look into ways to keep your room cool if you don’t have an AC. Dr. Dimitriu adds that in warm climates, combining all of the above can help keep temperatures down.
What are some quick tips to avoid overheating at night?
In addition to using breathable bedding and cooling products to help you sleep better, I recommend that you avoid eating close to bedtime, as it can raise your body temperature and make it harder to fall asleep. Keep electronics out of the bedroom as they emit heat and blue light that can disrupt your sleep cycle. Taking a warm bath or shower before bed can help regulate your body’s temperature, making it easier to cool down and relax. Finally, exercising in the morning to reduce evening stimulation and staying hydrated throughout the day is essential to maintain a stable body temperature.
